Congratulations! Karen Remley, Former AAP CEO, Joins de Beaumont Foundation as Senior Fellow
The de Beaumont Foundation announced on Aug. 1 that Karen Remley, MD, MBA, MPH, FAAP, has joined the Foundation as a Senior Fellow. Dr. Remley, who has more than 30 years of experience in public health and healthcare most recently served as CEO of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which represents 67,000 practitioners dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
"I'm excited to add Karen to the de Beaumont Foundation team," said Brian C. Castrucci, CEO of the de Beaumont Foundation. "Her skills, experience, and entrepreneurial perspective will help us create practical solutions to build healthier communities. She brings a unique combination of public health, healthcare, and clinical experience and a track record of improving social and economic factors that result in better health for all."
Dr. Remley said, "I've worked with the Foundation over the years and have seen it emerge as a leader in improving the nation's health. I'm honored to build on the Foundation's success in bringing public health and healthcare professionals together to create solutions that benefit all Americans."
In addition to leading the AAP, Dr. Remley has had a prestigious and diverse career as a commissioner of health for the Commonwealth of Virginia, a pediatric emergency physician, and the chief medical director of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Virginia. As Virginia's health commissioner from 2008 to 2012, she advised the governor on public health issues and helped lead improvements in the rates of teen pregnancy, infant mortality, and cardiovascular disease. She is a professor of pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School and has held senior leadership roles in hospitals and health nonprofits, including Operation Smile Inc., Physicians for Peace, and Sentara Healthcare.
Dr. Remley earned an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, an MPH at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and her MD from University of Missouri in Kansas City. She completed her pediatrics residency at St. Louis Children's Hospital-Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
